Cake Smash & 1st Birthday Photography.
I was so excited when Ernie had won my Space themed Cake Smash Competition. I was really excited to have him in the studio and have him try out my new setup.
Around the time of Ernie’s 1st Birthday and for him to come in to the studio for his cake smash, his Mum contacted me and explained that we would need to postpone the smash. Ernie had Retinoblastoma (eye cancer in children).
Being a children’s photographer and following posts and links related to photography on facebook, I sometimes see other photographers mention about an eye condition that shows up in photographs. It’s where the affected eye would show a strange reflection in the pupil, the colour is different or a squint. Although I had heard of the condition, I had never met anyone with it first hand.
There is a great little video, which gives some examples here.
Ernie’s mum just so happened to see something on her Facebook timeline that made her get Ernie checked. Unfortunately Ernie’s eye cancer was so developed his eye had to be removed. When Ernie did come into the studio for his photo-shoot he’d had surgery and had his prosthetic eye.
Well, what can I say! Ernie looked amazing in a little astronaut outfit for his Space themed cake smash! I could not think of a more happier little boy to win my competition. I love the set up and Ernie looks as happy as can be with his beaming smile. He loved the cake and splashing in the bath!
Set-up by me.
